Bandelier National Monument is in beautiful Frijoles Canyon. The Puebloan people used the cavates as well as built structures in and on the ground. These look so different from Chaco Canyon’s buildings. There is also a kiva up in the cliff side, requiring a lot of ladder climbing, and a hike that ends in a waterfall. Plus, a lot of petroglyphs. The weather was perfect!
This is also our last day of hiking. We’ve averaged 9 miles a day! (Over 20,000 steps).

Pecos National Historical Park was our last uninhabited pueblo ruin. At Pecos, we saw evidence of the arrival of the Spanish in the 1540s. The Spanish used forced Puebloan labor to build an enormous church on the grounds and it is one of the sites of the Pueblo Revolt of 1680.
